Gravity
by Cindy Pitts
I look in the mirror
Looking back at me
Feeling everything I’ve been in those eyes
But the face around them
Keeps changing as we speak
The gravity of the situation
Takes me by surprise
It’s the need to be alone
More than I used to be
Though I still need good company
In the keeping of the balance
I shed all my tears
For the years lost
Spinning endlessly
A wrinkle in time
Is well worth the read
The road less traveled
At times will make you bleed
Don’t we know that
Through the cycles of change
And home on the range
It’s the creaking of the knee
The hairs changing hue
Transforming passion into something new
The ever-expanding heart
Feels it could hold the world
When it’s not aching or breaking
My peace flag is unfurled
Guess I’m getting older
Though I feel young inside
The more I speak my truth
The less I have to hide
And the weight of silence
In the pregnant pause
Defies all the laws
Of gravity
Some of us had children
Some of us did not
But we all bear witness
To humankinds lot
We’d like to feed the people
We’d like to get along
Everyday is a new meaning
Of what it is to be strong
A wrinkle in time
Is well worth the read
The road less traveled
At times will make you bleed
Don’t we know that
Through the cycles of change
And home on the range
Guess I’m getting older
Through I feel young inside
The more I speak my truth
The less I have to hide
And the weight of silence
In the pregnant pause
Defies all the laws
Of gravity
